ICT IN THE CLASSROOM

Nursery rhymes help children to develop language acquisition and help speech development. It helps to learn basic numeracy and counting forward and backward. So in one of my lesson in mathematic PP, I taught nursery rhyme in the topic ‘Counting to 10’. Children already learned numbers from one to five in the previous chapter. It was easy for me to teach numbers from six to ten. They can say the numbers from one to ten easily but it was very difficult to teach how to count number backward. There is one topic where children should be able to say the numbers backward from ten to one. So I taught one rhyme call “ Ten little monkeys jumping on the bed”. When I was teaching this rhyme it was very difficult to teach them the lyrics of the rhyme in sequence. So I downloaded the nursery rhyme from YouTube and showed to my children.

 I divided the class into two groups and played rhymes to them with pictures as shown in the pictures below. Children were so excited to watch and sing the rhyme.

After watching many times they can sing the rhyme “Ten Little monkeys jumping on the bed” with correct lyrics. Since the rhyme starts with ten and goes backward (eg; ten, nine, eight ……..) children can also count the backward. They can now say the numbers backward from ten to one. ICT helps me to teach that rhyme and helps children to learn so quickly. I did it in the class itself by taking two laptops because it takes time to take small kids to the other room connected with projectors. We have only 40 minutes in one period so it's very difficult to control and take small kids to that room.  


 If we can use ICT daily with our lesson I am sure it will benefit our children in learning. On the other hand, it has disadvantages, example lack resources, meaning every class need projector individually with a computer which is impossible due to lack of budgets. We cannot take our children to other only room connected with projectors every period. It reduces our time from teaching periods.
Therefore, I wish in future our children get these facilities to use in the classrooms.

    Nursery rhymes plays vital role in every subject. You used video to teach the concept of numbers in descending order. Keep on going using ICT tools.

    ICT application, like video can change the face of lesson delivery mode. Use of such ICT application, make children learn in better ways than simply using traditional textbooks and lecturing methods.

    It was nice to see you using audiovisual in your lesson in different way and good to know that your children learnt a lot. By looking at the size of your class I would suggest you to screen audiovisual through LCD projector or other smart tv screen so that your children dont have to crunch all together....in a way they would capture very easily. You are absolutely right that these days children learns better with audiovisual rather than our traditional lecture methods. Use more of such kind in the future too.

    Great madam, you have taught nursery rhymes using laptop. Students will enjoy visual aids more than audio music both inside and outside of the classroom.
    You have really done the best job for your Children. They might have enjoyed your teaching a lot.

    Integration of ICT in teaching really helps younger children than the adults.

    Your teaching might have become easier and children must have learned faster and easily comparing to your other classes without using ICT techniques.

    These days children learn better with information and communication technology than the traditional method.So,it seems that your children have learned lot specially on counting backward which would be difficult to learn through traditional method.good ideas shared.keep it up.

    Good use of ict madam. Although you were teaching mathenatics in pp. Even if they are small, they are far better than us in use of ict. I feel sometimes if we can teach them how to log on to educational website and teach them how to fetch information on given topic from the net, it would be worth learning la. Just my thought.
